What Was ChangeMySoftware?
ChangeMySoftware (CMS) was a scam software active roughly from 2014 to 2018. It promised users the ability to convert one operating system into another - run Windows 8 on an Android tablet, install Android on an iPhone, that sort of thing. Obviously, none of this actually worked. It was a survey monetization scam dressed up as legitimate freeware.
Across its lifetime the site went through at least four distinguishable eras, each captured and restored in this sub-project's legacy/ folder. Below is a timeline of what changed.
1.0: 2014 - The Beginning
The earliest captured version used a MyThemeShop WordPress theme (BebasNeue headings, PT Sans body text) exported as static HTML/PHP files. Downloads were three plain mirrors per product (TinyFileHost, MWFiles, ShareBay - all now defunct).

2015 came in two phases. The Pre-ID version was a clean redesign - hand-coded, table-based layout with a custom blue-accented stylesheet, still using three dead mirror links for downloads. No locker, no gate, refreshingly straightforward (if equally broken).
Then came the Post-ID version, where things got predatory. Every downloadable product page got a bolted-on AstroCash CPA content-locker: click "Download", watch a fake 12-second "Generating an Application ID for your IP Address" countdown complete with spinner graphic, then get shown a fake success screen with a bogus ID number - all before the real call handed you off to AstroCash's actual survey wall.

The most evolved and most heavily crawled version. Added a "CMS 10 Edition", a homepage image slider, dropdown navigation. The same AstroCash gateway pattern from the post-ID 2015 snapshot persisted here, just with more supposedly updated products gated behind it. This was also the messiest version to restore.

Scam software sites like ChangeMySoftware rarely get archived deliberately - they're the kind of thing the internet is usually happy to forget. But sites like this were genuinely formative for a lot of people who grew up clicking around the mid-2010s web, encountering their first content lockers, their first "too good to be true" download buttons, their first lesson in healthy skepticism.
This project treats CMS as a small but real piece of internet history: it restores each era's original design and code as faithfully as possible (minus the actual scam mechanics, which have been stripped and replaced with honest placeholders), and pairs that history with a wink - a modern 2026 tribute site imagining what CMS might look like if the joke kept going.
No original installer files, video assets, or the AstroCash widgetapi.js paywall logic were ever captured in the source archive - only the marketing shell that called them. What you see here is a restoration of that shell, wired up with real (fully rebuilt) contact/newsletter functionality, and real YouTube embeds in place of the missing 2014 video assets.
